Emily Macmillan RMT
Emily has been passionate about her career as a massage therapist since 2014. While she has had a lifelong tendency towards movement-based activites, her massage therapy practice has transformed her experience and understanding of the human body in ways she cannot wait to articulate. While she understands the importance of managing painful symptoms to optimize relaxation and recovery states, her approach emphasizes injury prevention and creating sustainable wellness by rooting through underlying biomechanical causes and providing clients with empowering self-care tools.
Emily uses a variety of Swedish massage and myofascial release techniques catered to each client’s unique needs. While her clients have often reflected upon the strength of her hands, her experience as a massage therapist and lifelong student has taught her to prioritize clear communication while setting collaborative goals and boundaries. She takes pride in maintaining a direct strategy and optimizing long-term efficacy by increasing client understanding of cause and effect within their bodies while tailoring to the differing individual needs/preferences of our wonderfully diverse client population. She has had positive results in various experiences treating clients with MS, diabetic neuropathies, fibromyalgia, restrictions caused by surgical scar tissue (particularly pertaining to orthopedic reconstructions, survivors of breast cancer, frozen shoulder, and other shoulder girdle pathologies resulting from postural adaptation), working with professional athletes, pregnant people, children, and many other specialized treatment needs.
In recent years, Emily has become an avid yoga student and teacher in training. What started as adjunctive therapy to her own self-care routine has become a whole new vocabulary with which to hold space and provide supportive wellness-based care. She has also grown to understand the nuance and importance of complete range of motion strengthening and balanced form with regards to weightlifting; the all-important key to sustainable body mechanics and physical longevity that can be adapted to almost all lifestyle goals.
Emily is enthusiastic about meeting and interacting with clients from every walk of this city and is happy to be providing a service that has such an incredible impact.
